What to do when Satan attacks you

What to do when Satan Attacks You

Acts 16:16-18

16 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17 This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her

Certainly the evildoers prosper, and even those who challenge God escape.'”

The Python Spirit

Python Spirit

Satan Tries to Squeeze the Life out of You

Introduction: Are you fighting internal battles that seem to get the best of you? Prayer life? Joy of your salvation? Zeal gone? Spiritual desires waning? Something crept in?

Acts 16:16-18

Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

Puthon (poo’-thone); from Putho (the name of the region where Delphi, the seat of the famous oracle, was located); a Python, i.e.

  1. Things begin to cut in on your time in the Word.
  2. Then reasons to not be in church.

Heb 10:25

25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

  1. Nothing wrong with harmless entertainment, but it can subtly become a substitute for God’s presence.

2. Fatigue

  1. Elijah fell under a tree, exhausted.

1 Kings 19:3-5

3 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, 4 while he himself went a day’s journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” 5 Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep.

Matt 4:8-9

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'”

  1. The enemy can orchestrate circumstances to give you what you are looking for at a vulnerable moment in your life and steal from you what matters most.
  2. Two times in you life when you are especially vulnerable to temptation: when you have nothing and when you have everything.

Ps 37:25

25 I was young and now I am old,

yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken

or their children begging bread.

  1. Never let your kids trade the things of God for minimum wage.
  2. Make a decision about tithing before a lack attack hits. Tithing is an act of trusting god to take care of the rest.

WOL Church turns 30

WOLChurch turns 30

One of El   Paso’s most talked about church turns 30. On April 1, 1984, Pastor Tom Brown along with his wife, Sonia, founded the Word of Life Church in the AscarateSchool. Starting with only seven people, it has grown to be one of the most relevant churches in the city.

Historical Facts:

  • Word of Life Church was founded by Pastor Tom Brown on April 1, 1984 with seven people. It started in the AscarateElementary School on Alameda.
  • Three years later the church moved to a rented facility on 7750 North Loop.
  • Seven years later the church purchased nine acres of prime real estate off of Pratt Ave and Saul Kleinfeld and built its first building on 1994. The original square footage was 8,000. Later the church sold an acre.
  • The church expanded in 2004 and added an indoor playground and children’s facilities. The total square footage went past 17,000.
  • The church added new offices in 2011, increasing the square footage past 18,000.
  • Tom Brown was ordained and consecrated as an Anglican bishop on March 7, 2012.1
  • The church expanded once again by adding 3,200 more square footage for the children and coffee shop and another 2,200 square feet is used to increase the sanctuary by building premier box seats (commonly called a balcony). This brings total square footage well past 23,000 and seating to 812.
  • The ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication of the enlarged church as a Patriarchal Cathedral took place on Christmas Eve, December 24, Monday at 4:24 pm, 11675   Pratt Ave, El Paso, Texas79936. Two Christmas Eve services followed The Patriarch John Githiga was present to dedicate the cathedral.

Word of Life Church is celebrating this landmark occasion at the famous Cattlemen’s Steak House in Fabens on March 28, Friday at 6-9. Later it will celebrate the event at the church, 11675 Pratt Ave, on April 1, Tuesday at 7:15. There will be special music, video presentation of the history of the church, and stories of how people’s lives were positively impacted by the church. Bishop Tom Brown will also give an inspirational message on how you can make your dreams come true. (915) 855-9673

1 The ordaining body is a continuing Anglican Church which means it retains the heritage and apostolic succession of the Anglican church; however the church is not in full communion with the See of Canterbury.

St Patrick’s Day, Gay Pressure

Today, we as Christians celebrate the life of St Patrick. A great bishop that brought the gospel to Ireland. Through his efforts the pagan religion lost influence over the country. We owe much to his work in evangelizing. He also spoke out against social injustice, including slavery.

Today, in New York is the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade. And as expected, homosexual activists want to promote their sinful lifestyle during the parade. However, organizers don’t allow political expression during the parade, including homosexual and confused gender activists from promoting their lifestyle. It’s not that anyone is banned from marching; just no one can use the parade to push their political and social agenda.

The so-called LGBT group are known to be bullies. They threatened boycotts of any sponsor of the event.  Many beer companies (Samuel Adams, Heineken, and Guinness) bowed to the ungodly pressure.

We need to understand more than ever, how the successors of Sodom and Gomorra work. They are cruel, mean-spirited, and prejudice.

I wonder if the parade allowed them free expression to promote the homosexual lifestyle, would Christian be permitted to promote the traditional family of one man for one woman? I doubt it. For homosexuals, free speech goes only one way!

Four Blood Moons, Part 4

Four Blood Moons

Part 4

Recap: Jesus prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem and that it would be in the hands of the Gentiles until their time was finished. Since AD70 Jerusalem had been in the hands of Gentles.  In 1948 Israel declared independence, and the following year, during the four blood moons, they won their battle for independence and was declared by the UN to be a legitimate nation. While they were a Nation, Israel only possessed west Jerusalem until the six day war, when they won all of Jerusalem. So in May 1967, during the four blood moons, Israel regained Jerusalem. The prophetic time for the church entered a new period. The times of the gospel being given to the Gentiles, while still offered to them, took a dramatic turn. Nations that once were influenced by Jesus Christ, now have turned against His teachings and Lordship.  This year we begin another series of four blood moons.

Rev 17:1-18

Rev 17:9-11

9 “This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. 10 They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for a little while. 11 The beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.

Dan 2:40

40 Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron — for iron breaks and smashes everything

C.     The final Kingdom is the Iron legs. Rome.

D.    Jesus came during the Roman Empire.

v 10 “Not yet come”

II.                Can’t be any of the previous six kingdoms. Seventh head was Germany.

A.     Rome was conquered by the Germanic people.

B.     Rome tried to conquer to Germania in AD 9, but Rome was crushed.

C.     By AD 400 the power of mighty Rome had begun to collapse.. During this period the Germanic armies poured into the weaken West Roman Empire. This was the beginning of the rise of the Franks.

D.    Most chronologies place the end of the Western Roman empire in 476, when Romulus Augustulus was forced to abdicate to the Germanic warlord Odoacer

E.     In AD 486, Clovis, a Frankish king defeated the Roman governor of Gaul (now France).

F.      Charlemagne came into power in 768.

G.    It was not until the Treaty of Verdun that Charlemagne’s empire was divided into three kingdoms: Louis II (called Germany), Charles I (called France) and Lothair I (Italy).

H.    Axis of evil: Germany, Italy and Japan. France lost battle in 1940, and for a time fought with Germany. Picture of Hitler, Mussolini and Petain.

I.       Past six head. The succeeding Empire overcame the previous empire. Rome was destroyed by the Germanic people.

  1. Remains for a little while.” Hitler reign less than 13 years. Ruled less time than the other empires, but killed more Jews. Picture of concentration camp.

Dan 2:44-45

44 “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.

III.             While Jesus came during the iron legs, the iron legs also produce clay toes. establishes his spiritual kingdom.

Rev 17:12-18

12 “The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast…
14 They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings — and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”

A.     Prediction that the kings will follow the lamb. History, the western empire became Christian.

15 Then the angel said to me, “The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages. 16 The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire. 17 For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to give the beast their power to rule, until God’s words are fulfilled. 18 The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.”

A.     John sees the ten toes as future kingdoms.

B.     Hate the whore.” Roman religion. Again description of the nations rejecting the Roman religion and becoming Christian.

C.     Daniel sees the coming of the Messiah during the legs of iron. 10 toes are part of this Western powers.

D.    Germany was the seventh beasts.

E.     Germany defeated Rome. The five heads were defeated by the succeeding heads.

F.      Interestingly, after the Holocaust, Israel becomes a nation.

G.    Russia defeats Germany.

11 The beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.

IV.              Look for Russia to help the eighth head. Or possibly the conglomeration of all seven heads. Or “once was” possibly one of the former five kingdoms. Medes and Persians is now modern Iran.

A.     Syria to the north of Israel. Egypt to the south of Israel. Jordon to the East, Iraq also joined forces.

B.     It’s possible that the Eight kingdom has been fulfilled in the 6 th day war considering that three the former five heads (Egypt, Syria, Iraq [modern day Babylon]) were part of the war.

C.     Interestingly Persian Empire (Iran) was not part of the attack against Israel in the 6th day war.

D.    Greece was not part of the war either.

E.     Could we actually describe the 8th head as part of the 6th day war when few Jews were killed?

F.      once was” could refer only to one of the five former empires. Medes and Persian: Iran before 1935.

G.    Iran and Russia are allies. Russia provides weapons to Iran. Iran is Israel’s greatest threat.

H.    Four of the five previous heads are now Islamic countries. Radical Islam is anti Israel.

Rev 17:8

8 The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and will come up out of the Abyss and go to his destruction.

Rev 17:11

11 The beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.

I.       Whoever this eighth king is will be doomed for his destruction.

J.      Will this coming four blood moons bring about the destruction of the eight kingdom?

K.    Radical Islam will be destroyed.

L.     Any nation of the previous five kingdoms will be destroyed if they attack Israel.

Dan 12:1-2

12 “At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people — everyone whose name is found written in the book — will be delivered.

Dan 12:4

4 But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”

Rev 22:10-11

10 Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near.

I.                   The future that speaks of the end was so far away, Daniel would have no way to understand the prophecy, so he was told to seal it.

A.     John, the Revelatory, is told to unsealed the prophecy. It was happening before his eyes, and much more in the future was going to unfold.

B.     He tells us when the end will come: “Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”

Dan 12:4

4 “But Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal it up so that it will not be understood until the end times, when travel and education shall be vastly increased!”

  5.     Now: High speed internet, (block busters going out of business) Knowledge at a click of the button.
  6.     We are truly at the fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy.

Dan 12:6-7

“How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?”

7 The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, “It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed.”

  1. Temple was destroyed in 70 AD. Now begins the prophecies.

A.     Time, Times (2) and half time comes to 3 1/2 times. Means “time” (long time), “times” (longer than thought) and “half time” (added for good measure).

“Power of the holy people (Jews and Christians) finally broken.”

B.     70 Ad begins the countdown.

III.             Interpreting the Book of Revelation. Symbols. Reason: Rome was confiscating and destroying scriptures. Vision in biblical code.

A.     Babylon is fallen: Rome is falling.

B.     Most people naturally interpret the visions as symbols: whore on a beasts, beasts out of the water, 4 horses, dragon. But then they mistakenly interpret the other symbols literally.

C.     Mistake to think the revelation is about the seven year tribulation, and the church is gone from this.

  1. Babylon is fallen. Christian’s rose in the 4th century. 476 end of the Roman Empire.
  2. Woman gives birth to male child.

D.    The Book is a dramatic retelling of the gospel and of the last days preceding the coming of Christ and the end of the age.

Gen 37:9

Rev 12:6

6 The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.

B.     During this same period of the church preaching the holy Word of God, Israel will be protected during this period, though, she will live in a desert (dry place, exile). “Gentiles will trample the Holy City for 42 months.

Rev 11:7-10

7 Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them. 8 Their bodies will lie in the street of the great city, which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. 9 For three and a half days men from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. 10 The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.

V.                 After 42 months. “finished their testimony.” Attack against the church will be about Sodom (homosexuality) and Egypt (killing babies). Sanctity of human life and marriage. Roe v Wade 1973.

A.  God is dead philosophy: “Where also their Lord was crucified.”

  2. The cover of the April 8, 1966 edition of Time magazine asked the question “Is God Dead?” and the accompanying article addressed growing atheism in America at the time. Picture of Time Magazine, Is God dead?
  3. So called Christian theologians no longer accepted the possibility of affirming belief in a transcendent God. They concluded that God had incarnated in Christ and imparted his immanent spirit which remained in the world even though Jesus was dead.

Rev 12:13-15

13 When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. 14 The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the desert, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent’s reach.

VI.              First vision. She “fled”. This time she is given the “wings of an Eagle”. Wings of an Eagle. Symbol of America.

A.     Israel got back Jerusalem, thus the 42 months have ended. We are in the 3 1/2 days. Shorter period of apostasy than revival.

B.     When Jerusalem got back their city, the prophetic time for the church entered a new period. Two witnesses killed.

2 Thess 2:3

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Blood Moons, Part 2

Four Blood Moons

Part 2

Rev 6:12-14

12 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13 and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. 1

I.                   Summary: It is rare that scripture, science and history align each other. God is controlling the sun and moon through His set laws so they will signal something is about to happen. I am talking about the four blood moons.

A.     Tetrads: 4 back to back total lunar eclipses.

B.     They will be seen in different parts of the world.

C.     What significances in this upcoming Tetrads is that they occur on the feasts day of the Jews.

    B.     Begins April 14, 10:55 pm, total eclipse begins at April 15 at 1:08 am during Passover.

    C.     Tetrads are seen in 300 year cycles. Then in about 300 years, they are not seen anymore. There are still blood moons.

D.    For example, there are no tetrads from 1582 to 1908, but 17 tetrads occur during the following 2 and 1/2 centuries from 1909 to 2156. Summary, we are in the Tetrads cycle. But our focus is on Tetrads landing on Passover and Tabernacle.

Lev 23:1-2

M.   Last trumpet meant that there were trumpet sounds before the final one.

2 Cor 5:1-2

5 Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.

They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

Luke 21:20-24

20 “When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. 22 For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. 23 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. 24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

IV.              Argue, what is so different about these tetrads? To help us understand what we might possible see in terms of world events, we must look back in last century and see some significant events.

A.     “Punishment” rejection of the Messiah

B.     “Wrath against this people.” Anti-Semitism

V.                 Is it possible that the world will accept Jerusalem as the capital of Israel? While no nations accept Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, it is ruled by Israel.

VI.              Next week we look at the Book of Daniel and Revelation and learn how the restoration of the Jerusalem to Israel is a fulfilled prophecy.
