Four Blood Moons

Four Blood Moons

Joel 2:30-31

30 I will show wonders in the heavens

and on the earth,

blood and fire and billows of smoke.

31 The sun will be turned to darkness

and the moon to blood

before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

I.                   Introduction: Something big is about to happen. It involves the four blood moons.  I want to talk about the four blood moons called a Tetrad. A tetrad is a series of back to to “total” lunar eclipses occuring within 2 years. It’s called a “blood moon” because the light reflected through the earth’s atmosphere onto the moon gives it a red color. You do not need to have a total lunar ecplipse to have the moon look red. It can look red with a patial eclipse or even when it is on the horizon.

  1. Beginning this Passover will start the first of four blood moons, all occuring on Jewish Feasts of Passover and Tabernacle.
  2. Picture: Blood Moons Illustrated.
  3. In 2014, there are two solar eclipses and two total lunar eclipses as follows.

2014 April 15, Total Lunar Eclipse (Passover)

2014 Oct 08, Total Lunar Eclipse (Tabernacles)

  1. The Next year, 2015, the same will happen, except for one unusual event, a total solar eclipse just 2 weeks before Passover.

Gen 1:14

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years

KJV

Ps 19:1-4

9 The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

2 Day after day they pour forth speech;

night after night they display knowledge.

3 There is no speech or language

where their voice is not heard.

4 Their voice goes out into all the earth,

their words to the ends of the world.

II.                 The Jewish Talmud (book of tradition / Interpretation) says; “When the moon is in eclipse, it is a bad omen for Israel. If its face is as red as blood, (it is a sign that) the sword is coming to the world.” Therefore: Lunar Eclipse = bad omen for the Jewish people and Israel; Blood Moon = sword coming; Solar Eclipse = bad omen for the world.

    1. Divine       Billboard.
    2. Four, blood moons on Jewish Feast days within       two years in Israel       is very rare and has only occurred seven times since the time of       Jesus. There are now four blood moons scheduled to appear in 2014/2015       and then there will NOT be any for the next 100 years.
    3. It does       not take a total lunar eclipes to produce a blood moon.
    4. Moon can       turn blood by being near the horizon.

III.             Peter appears to allude to a solar and lunar eclipes near there date.

Acts 2:16-21

6 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 “‘In the last days, God says,

I will pour out my Spirit on all people.

Your sons and daughters will prophesy,

your young men will see visions,

your old men will dream dreams.

18 Even on my servants, both men and women,

I will pour out my Spirit in those days,

and they will prophesy.

19 I will show wonders in the heaven above

and signs on the earth below,

blood and fire and billows of smoke.

20 The sun will be turned to darkness

and the moon to blood

before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.

21 And everyone who calls

on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

    1. “Blood-colored moon” is a well-known phenomenon       observed during lunar eclipses (unlike the solar ones, lunar eclipses       happen when the moon is full) when the moon is not fully covered by the       shadow of the earth, but is fully covered by the shadow of the earth’s       atmosphere. A similar effect can be observed on the earth when the sun is       setting behind clouds on the horizon and only dark red rays fall on an       object.
    2. In A.D.33 a partial lunar eclipse happened when the       moon rose at the night of April 3 – that was exactly the first full moon       after the spring equinox, i.e. on the Passover, as Nissan 15 began. The       eclipse took place from about 6 pm       to 9 pm according to the local       time in the Middle East –What is significant though is that the red moon       was a series of four blood moons. It began on Passover of 32

    1. Peter was reminding the Jewish leaders of these       solar and lunar eclipse as a sign that God did something great.

Luke 21:7

7 “Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?”

  1. Sun and Moon as signs.
    1. A.     Jesus then gives signs preceding the destruction of the Temple.

Luke 21:25

25 “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars.

Matt 24:29

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,

and the moon will not give its light;

the stars will fall from the sky,

and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

V. What now?

A.     These four lunar eclipse are even more significant than the time of either Christ or Destruction of the Temple in that they are total lunar eclipses.

B.     What makes them even more important is that a Total Solar Eclipse will take place 2 weeks before the 3rd Tetrad. Total Eclipse on March 20, 2015. It is also called the Kings New Year. Picture of Total Solar Eclipse on March 20, 2015

C.     This is the patterned of Jesus Resurrection.

D.    Something significant will take place after Passover, April 4, 2015.
